Bette Midler jokes about resemblance to her daughter Sophie (2024)

Bette Midler fans may be been doing a double take on the red carpet for the opening of Broadway's Some Like It Hot on Sunday evening in New York City.

The Tony winning artist brought a date along to the debut - her lookalike daughter, Sophie Von Haselberg.

Bette, 77, made a witty note seeking to clear up any question of who is who when she posted a photo of the two of them on Instagram, writing, 'I’m on the left!'

The Grammy winning singer looked chic in a navy blue top, navy and black skirt, black boots and floor length black coat with a blue and purple scarf around her neck.

Sophie, 36, saw the humor in the post and shared her own take on it, posting, 'LOL, "I'm on the left" she says.'

The Pose actress stood out in black and silver sequined pants, a black top and scarf and an orange coat. Her hair was styled in natural curls and she added a splash of contrast with a bright pink purse.

The actress and singer gave a ringing endorsem*nt for Some Like It Hot, writing 'Congrats to @Mark_Shaiman and @Scottwittman on an utterly fabulous show. Run! Don't walk to Some Like It Hot!'

Not only has Sophie inherited her mother's looks, but she's inherited her talent as well.

In addition to work in American Princess, House of Cards and American Crime story, she's headlined her own film, Give Me Pity, which was an official selection of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Sophie stars as Sissy St. Clair a star whose live television special turns into a psychedelic nightmare. She sings and dances in the comedic thriller.

The Yale Drama School alum has two more films in the works - Love... Reconsidered, a romantic comedy and The Raging Heart of Maggie Ackers, a comedy.

Sophie shared her own happily ever after in a witty essay for Bride's magazine, explaining why she got married during the pandemic after vowing to never to wed, writing, 'what it would mean if one of us became gravely ill. '

'Wouldn’t we want the solidity that comes with being a spouse? That no-matter-what-we’re-in-this-together thing? And, of course, those important rights and protections? It came as a shock to both of us that the answer was a resounding “yes.”'

For her wedding look, Sophie said she 'tried on every silky thing in {Bette's} closet, settling on a vintage onesie.'

She announced the 2020 wedding on Instagram writing, 'In the midst of COVID, a piece of $h!t president, and the power and poignancy of the Black Lives Matter movement, I got married! Because honestly, WHY NOT. It’s great to have cake smeared on your face by someone you love! And hot DAMN do I love this man!'
