How reliable is BBC Weather? ›

In a composite measure of accuracy, the Weather Channel and Weather Underground came top, AccuWeather fifth, MeteoGroup (the BBC's new provider) sixth and the BBC ninth (based on Met Office forecasts). On the correct prediction of precipitation, MeteoGroup came fourth overall and the BBC 10th of the 12.

I trust BBC weather for my area. Seems pretty accurate most of the time. I use both Met Office and BBC Weather apps on my phone. They can both be wrong but I find that the Met Office one is more accurate, more often.

Where does BBC get weather from? ›

On 6 February 2018 BBC Weather changed supplier from the government Met Office to MeteoGroup, after being required to put its weather services out to tender. Some have claimed there has been a reduction in accuracy of BBC forecasts as a result.

Fifty years ago, on 15^th October 1962, British weather forecasts switched over from the Fahrenheit scale to Celsius.

Spring is when the city experiences its maximum rainfall. The months from October to early November signify autumn and that is another time when London gets a lot of rainfall. Winter hits London around November.

June and July are warm, hot months in London when it is Summer. January and February are the coldest months in London. November and August see the highest rainfall in London. The summer months of May, June, July is the best time to visit London.

London gets an occasional thunderstorm when rain pours down, but for the most part the rain is fairly light.

Working with our weather data provider MeteoGroup, we provide hourly forecasts out to 14 days. When producing forecasts beyond the next few days, MeteoGroup uses weather model information which tends more towards trends in the weather, rather than a single 'deterministic' output.

BBC bosses have been accused of making online weather forecasts 'too pessimistic'. If there is heavy rain in the evening but the weather is sunny in the daytime, the corporation's smartphone weather app can show a symbol of a black cloud and raindrop to cover the entire day.
